About Us
Big Dog Australia Pty Ltd (previously Big Dog Pet Foods Pty Ltd) was established in September 2000.
Big Dog Australia is a family owned and operated business with its Directors boasting over 45 years experience in the Food Industry.
Prior to start up, Managing Director Chris Essex, graduated from Gatton University after studying Food Science. He was offered a role, after completing his “prac” studies with one of Australia’s largest Small Goods Manufactures, at (then) Chisholm Manufacturing in Quality Assurance. Chisholm Manufacturing supplied Woolworth’s with deli produce. Chris quickly rose through the ranks to become Quality Assurance Manager before shifting into the production team. It was not long before Chris was Production Manager responsible for 240 staff, and production of over 400 tonne per week in small goods at the tender age of 24.
During this time Chris also completed his “External Auditing Certification, and is now a Certified Third Party Auditor.
With 14 staff, who are committed, passionate and constantly updating their knowledge of “all things” business and nutrition, (including 4 sales staff on the ground servicing Australia), Big Dog Australia manufactures and supplies innovative ALL NATURAL products including BARF, Minces, Dog and Cat Supplements, and Equine Supplements globally. Having worked with AQIS and Japan MAFF writing the regulations for import/exporting of RAW Pet Foods into Japan over 10 years ago, Big Dog Australia is the leader in exportation of RAW Diets.
